No proposed Constitution for the State of New Columbia shall take effect as the Constitution of the State of New Columbia until approved by the Congress of the United States and ratified in a referendum by a majority of the registered qualified electors of the District of Columbia voting thereon.
Prior Codifications 1981 Ed., § 1-113.1. Legislative History of Laws Law 7-8, the "Constitution for the State of New Columbia Approval Act of 1987," was introduced in Council and assigned Bill No. 7-154, which was referred to the Committee of the Whole. The Bill was adopted on first and second readings on April 14, 1987 and May 5, 1987, respectively.
