The DC Code: § 22-3009.03 First degree sexual abuse of a secondary education student.

Any teacher, counselor, principal, coach, or other person of authority in a secondary level school who engages in a sexual act with a student under the age of 20 years enrolled in that school or school system, or causes that student to engage in a sexual act, shall be imprisoned for not more than 10 years, fined in an amount not to exceed $100,000, or both.

Historical and Statutory

Legislative History of Laws Law 18-239 , the "Prohibition Against Human Trafficking Amendment Act of 2010", was introduced in Council and assigned Bill No. 18-70, which was referred to the Committee on Public Safety and the Judiciary. The Bill was adopted on first and second readings on March 16, 2010, and June 1, 2010, respectively. Signed by the Mayor on June 21, 2010, it was assigned Act No. 18-444 and transmitted to both Houses of Congress for its review. D.C. Law 18-239 became effective on October 23, 2010.
