The DC Code: § 8-702 Contracts for collection and disposal of garbage and refuse.

The Mayor is authorized to enter into contracts for the collection and disposal of garbage, waste, refuse, ashes, sewage, and sludge for periods not exceeding 20 years, subject to such criteria as the Council may by act establish and to annual appropriations by Congress; provided, that any such contract which is for a period of more than 5 years shall not be valid unless, with respect to that particular contract, the Council by a two-thirds vote of its members present and voting has first authorized such an extended contract.

Prior Codifications 1981 Ed., § 6-502. 1973 Ed., § 6-502. Legislative History of Laws Law 2-69, the "Solid Waste Control Act of 1977," was introduced in Council and assigned Bill No. 2-99, which was referred to the Committee on Transportation and Environmental Affairs. The Bill was adopted on first, amended first, second amended first and final readings on July 26, 1977, September 13, 1977, October 11, 1977 and October 25, 1977, respectively. Signed by the Mayor on January 27, 1978, it was assigned Act No. 2-135 and transmitted to both Houses of Congress for its review. DC CODE § 8-702 Current through December 11, 2012
